Vows
By Evelyn Hayman

I thought I knew love.

But I knew nothing.
I’ve felt the low hum of devotion
And the rush of hands entwined,
But when I met you
I became all transparent and empty
Brand new,
For I knew nothing.
Then you loved me and I became
Filled with you and the parts of me
That didn’t exist before you.
You and I,
Swirling together in the delicious haze of love.

Our love is the intoxicating silence
Of sitting next to you
Neither of us needing to say anything at all.
Our love is this moment
Standing here, declaring to the world,
To eternity
That I bind myself to you
With a force so powerful
Only we can feel it, my darling
Our love
You and I.
