My Dream
By Linda M. Crate

robin eggs blue, flaxen locks of gold;
pale white pearls and a rosemary beach
perched like a bird precariously against
the ivory, these are the things that make
me love you ever more — your intelligence,
your wit, the way you make me laugh; these
are all icing on the proverbial cake, so let’s
take a bit of you and me and see what is
left of Rome, when we finish it may be
past the point of repair; dappled light hangs
before us on spools of sun star shining
through the crux of the wood, let it fall over
us and burn away all the painful stains of
yesteryear that cry like rain water in streams.
