WHEN SHE BECOMES A BRIDE
By John Byrne
Sweet song of yearning, love brand new
The singer smooths our ride.
Our daughter sighs. “She sings it true
But when she is a bride
What novel thrills will then inspire
Such passion in her songs?
What sweet surprise will stoke the fires
That move her notes along?”
“Oh daughter, dear, hot passion’s fed
By going deep, not wide
And every morning since I wed
New beauty’s by my side.
And if I think there’s nothing new,
A glance will prove me wrong.
A sway, a smile, a ling’ring view
Can launch another song.
If she’s like us, she’ll find each day
Her love’s intensified
And passioned songs will flow her way
When she becomes a bride.”

live in Albany, Oregon with my wife and our daughter. I write short poems, short plays, and short stories. This short ballad arrived as a consequence of our daughter's remark at the end of a very popular love song.
