Need
By Linda M. Crate
I need you with the same intensity
a land in drought needs a river to
fall from the sky; you persuade my
inhibitions to fall away, and the
naked truth of me doesn’t push you
away; yet sometimes I feel as if we’re
drifting apart like a bottle from the
sea — I’ve crashed on so many shores,
I don’t want to traverse them anymore —
the only place I want to be is nestled
in the crook of your arms, my lashes
brushing your cheeks as our lips meet;
you’re the only place that feels like
home and I’m not willing to lose you.
