Sick Of
By Nicole Gail
I’m sick and tired of seeing the same
TV commercials on every channel.
Of walking down the street and
tripping forward onto my face.
Of fifteen year old kids exchanging
“I love yous” and cigarettes because
they’re too young to understand
that both are equally pernicious
to one’s health and wellbeing.
I’m sick and tired of
dropping
things.
Of leaning down to pick them up
at the same moment that someone walks
by and kicks them further away.
Of animals that continue to perish in my
care because they’re needy and actually
expect me to remember to feed them.
But most of all I’m sick of you. Sick
of the way you talk, the sway in your walk.
The damned sound of you voice and the
arrogance in your ostentatious smile.
I’m sick of my heart, this foolish heart—
how it continues pulsating in clichés
every single time I see you walk past;
wishing, in some sick fantasy, that I
would be the one to walk beside you.
