it's not easy to see
the core
of you and me

it's not the bzz bzz
of texts and texts
though sometimes i think it is

it's not the late-night conversations
the i love yous
and reallys
and so muchs

it's not the glow of the phone in the dark
hurting my eyes chasing sleep
away
for one last black and white

no, the core of you and me
is not on any screen

it's quiet and sweet
in the breath of night
when your face is blues and grays
made alive by the flickering nearby light

it's in the moments in between
when your eyes
are dark and round
on me
and they speak
words
that can't
be typed
or
spelled
or
heard
just
felt
