By Allie Coker-Schwimmer
Stronger, braver, smarter, and funnier
Than the mere conventional man
My lover and I do not see
Do not smell
Do not taste
Do not DARE touch
Only hear and then listen
As cells battle fiercely
A movement against poison
Against the soul
But there lingers a faint glimmer of myself in your arms
Your hand on my thigh
Your powerful shoulders so near
Our hands creating calm, hot moisture
I’ve seen our lives
Our marriage, our house, our days spent together
Our nights spent Alone
My lover heaves and moans
Not on top of me
But in me
For we have never made love
Or been together for longer than three days
He loves me
I love him
Therefore we can never be

I discovered Daily Love via duotrope and wanted to submit a few poems. Currently, I am obtaining my MFA in Creative Writing from Queen's University of Charlotte and live with my husband in Durham, NC. Thank you for taking the time to consider my work.
