Sonnet
By Hayley Bodmer
Dear love, I fear I am missing your light,
for your sweet hand keeps slipping out of mine;
like I'm holding on to a twirling night,
or trying to catch a shooting star that shines.
Oh, love, I see you there among the crowd,
with your ideal facade and special walk.
I've thought of you more than should be allowed,
already like I'm fastened to a clock.
I need to know why, what with eyes so kind,
why you walk away, my words in the air;
I was asking, "is this what Life designed?
to give me pain, and all these hearts to spare?"
But it's my fault that you won’t turn my way;
I was too 'fraid to see you, that one day.

Sometimes I think I’d rather be a mermaid. I’m also a hopeless romantic who laughs too much.
