The Vine Girl
By Jen DePoorter
Even at night, my thoughts flit back to you.
The seed grows in my head,
spreads vines throughout my body
and ends at my toes.
The vine is tangled in my chest,
wrapped around my rib cage,
and sprouting spring flowers.
But the vine strangles my heart,
throbbing and pulsating,
suffocating and withholding.
I am the vine girl.
