Oblivious
By Linda M. Crate
I think the only one that could love you more than I did
was you; you were narcissus looking into that pool —
try as I may I could not attract your attention; you were a
swan and I was a goose, too clumsy was I to ever catch
your eye, a diamond in the rough that you saw through and
past as if I didn’t exist in any universe that you could —
my heart beat the circumference of the world when you
walked past, and you couldn’t be bothered to notice, the only
thing that ever caught your attention was your own reflection.
