Eternal Love
By Sam for L.A.M.
Sam and Lauren were just two people in high school. Living separate lives and being content with the world around them. Even when they first met they had no idea what was in store for them. He was too scared to talk to her and she thought he was too big of an idiot to talk to. The year ended with them knowing nothing more than each other's names. They never even made eye contact. Almost a full year passed before he saw her again. They hung out in a group and exchanged no more than a few words. He was still too shy and had a crush on her, and she didn’t even notice him. A few months passed, and once again fate brought the two of them together. This time fate put them alone. They walked together ahead of the group—and for the first time they shared a real conversation. He was still scared to look at her, but he was happy.
Soon they began hanging out. She grew fond of him but he remained oblivious of this fact. She tried to impress him and get him to ask her out and to prom, but he was too scared of rejection. Then, one night in her basement their lips accidentally touched. Butterflies flew through him and he wasn’t sure if should what to do. The feelings he felt then were indescribable. No one could imagine what it felt like for him. Just the feeling of their lips making contact almost made him faint. Life seemed to move in slow motion. As she turned towards him he wasn’t sure if it was to punch him or to kiss him. As it turns out it was a kiss, a kiss that lasted for two hours. The first kiss he ever received and a kiss he would remember forever. He had no idea what he was feeling. No idea how to kiss. But she led the way. He had never felt like this in his entire life, it was the best feeling in the world. If only he knew it would get better. The kissing stopped and everything felt surreal. She lay there like it was nothing while he was in a different world. It took him days to stop smiling.
It wasn’t before long that he asked her out. When she said yes she jumped into his arms and he started crying. She never saw and never knew about it, but he was beyond happy. Their relationship moved on and they became closer and closer. Some even claimed they were the same person. They spent every minute they had together and never regretted a single moment. She taught him everything he now knows and in return he took care of her and anything she needed. They were the perfect couple. When one of them fell down the other was there to pick them right back up. SAM and LAM were unbeatable. They knew each other inside and out. They knew what the other was thinking and they knew how to make the other smile. They promised each other eternal love, happiness, and a life together forever. They never took it back and knew that for them to survive they had to be with each other. A year went by and everything was perfect. She had introduced him to a happier life, and he showed her that together they were perfect. They showered each other with compliments, letters, and gifts of love.
But then college came. They said their goodbyes and went off to new, independent lives. Lives where one was not able to support the other in person. They had to stay tough and work together, despite being far apart. They both knew in their hearts that times would be rough, but in the end they would never regret it. College came and college went. There were bad times, awful times. But then there were happy times. They moved into together after college and spent every night together. Saying it was a dream come true was an understatement. Now they knew all the waiting was worth it. All the hard times were worth fighting through to get to this moment of true bliss.
Then one day the boy got down on one knee and asked the words she had been waiting to hear since high school. He asked her to marry him and spend the rest of her life with him. Speechless she jumped into his arms and once again he cried. This was the feeling that beat all other feelings he had felt before. He never told her he cried this time either. Their wedding was perfect. Every one of their friends and family was there and they couldn’t have been happier together. Their love was on display for the world to see. Destiny had done its job. It brought them together, showed them how happy they could be, put them against the test of time and distance, and in the end when they fought through, it awarded them with everlasting happiness and love.
They lived together, had kids together, grew together. Their lives were perfectly intertwined like they had always been. Looking back they remembered the good and bad times. How much they loved each other. They also looked at all the people and events that had tried to stop them, and trick them into thinking that they weren't perfect for each other. Lust, jealousy, greed, they were things of the past. They laughed at those demons because they had beaten them. And by doing so were rewarded with life together, to enjoy with each other.
People looked on them with envy. Wondering how they got through it all. How they overcame the hard times. They just told them to look to the future. That they had to think about the rest of their lives, and see that in the end as long as you are with that person that make you, you; nothing else matters. That when you find that person who makes you truly happy and will do anything to just see you smile, to hold on to them. To never let them go, never let them think you aren’t theirs forever. And finally when you get to that end point you will see it's all worth it. Because being with the love of your life, being with that person who completes you, is worth more than anything else in the world.
