Three Little Words
By Jacob Kreutzer
A full moon above and a calm lake below
bring thousands of words to mind.
But none seem fully capable of
giving praise to this moment,
not because of the way that the ripples
on the water disappear into silvery nothingness,
or because of the silent breeze that
rustles the fabrics of nature all around.
Nor is it because of the luminous fireflies
that slowly dance to the ballad of the night
or the slight halo that’s cast off of the lake
by the reflection of the moon above.
No; though gorgeous, I can put all of
this beauty into poetic word.
Nature and all of its glory
are not indescribable.
The indescribable is you.
I can see the soft light in your eyes,
but I could never put the life
I also see there to words.
I can feel your breath on my skin,
but I could never explain
the sensation it causes in me.
I can hear your sweet voice
and even write what you say,
but I could never fully describe
the meaning of those three little words.
