"Think of it as both an apology, and a promise."
By McKinnie L. Sizemore III (MLS3)
You want to know if I’ll go the distance.
You need to know I’ll stay the fight.
When, in your heart, we encounter dark resistance;
my guiding hand will hold a light.
And even though you’re crazy
and your thoughts I can’t divine.
You’re the only normal thing
in my schizophrenic life.
And when sad melancholy’s hooks
snag your weary flesh.
I’ll remove the poisoned barbs
and your wounds I will dress.
Open your heart a little wider;
I’ve but one toe in the door.
And still your beauty casts
a radiant light on marble floor.
I’ve waited far too long
for the other shoe to drop.
My naked, ugly fear
is that this feeling will stop.
And if I’ve already told you I’m sorry
I can’t have said it enough.
The honest, lonely truth is
you’re the only one I think of.
And even though you say
that you’re too old and I too young.
The only thing I know
is that this is love.
Open your heart a little wider;
I’ve but one foot in the door.
And such a brilliant light,
I’ve never seen before
The soundtrack to my life
could be the longing in your sighs.
And my own greatest torture
is the pain reflected in your eyes.
And even though circumstance
plots to keep me away.
In my mind I’m by your side
each and every day.
And even though I’m a fool
to put it all on the line.
I can’t have acted fast enough,
when what we don’t have is time.
Open your heart a little wider;
you’ve nearly opened the door.
And I don’t want to lose you,
I’ll say goodbye no more.
