WAKING BESIDE YOU
By John Grey
There's a sense of acclamation,
of the morning bird song paying tribute,
of being raised for a moment with no effort,
as if I am floating with my eyes barely open
and the air swells beneath me like a wave
then lands me softly at your side,
and I feel an unbroken connection
between my left arm and your right,
a seamlessness, an intermingling
as even your intentions fuse with mine -
the future has these moments coming -
our life together sets the bar.
