ABOVE WATER

Do not say
you love me, or that
your tub is dry.
His porcelain touch
in tears of tomorrow
flushed down.
She hovers over it
holding dry
lungs, filled with
yesterday’s liquor
Choking on this
photo, the smell of
sour cantaloupe and
wet grass
this is what drowning is,
this is your mind caving out
while blue fades
to black, while you
watch him fade away.

My name is Nicole Resnick. I am a current graduate from CU Boulder and I love writing poems about love and the hurt it can sometimes cause. Each of these poems describes the hurt that love can have on someone and how sometimes the pain that doesn't go away.
