You're Going To Regret the Amount Of Effort
By Emily Ahlers
Why do you love me?
You know I’ll be gone come August.
You know nothing is going to stop me.
You know I can’t stay here much longer.
You know leaving you won’t be an issue.
You know this will only end in heartbreak.
Why do you love me?
Please don’t say you’re hopeful.
Please refrain from tears.
Please stop making excuses for me.
Please keep your heart at a distance.
Why do you love me?
Whenever I forget to think before I speak.
Whenever I step away from your embrace.
Whenever I mention life without you.
Whenever I ignore your cries for a response.
Whenever I become a child born of ignorance.
Why do you love me?
So deeply.
So thoughtlessly.
So intently.
So consistently.
So blindly.
