Expectations
By Anonymous

I think I watched too much TV as a teenager, because I expected relationships to be about electrical attraction and surprising realizations and unspoken admiration and whispered revelations and moments of affection which would slowly build up to an explosive finale where I'd run into your arms and we’d kiss in the rain 'cause the season was ending and the show needed closure.

But now I’m hugging my knees after an unceremonious break-up and a decline of romance and awkward silences and drunken mistakes and an ordinary pick-up line and a no-sparks-flying-but-I-guess-you’re-okay first impression, and I’m not even that sad because no part of it was memorable; because TV didn’t tell the truth about relationships.

And if I had known that as a teenager, I wouldn’t have been so excited to grow up.
