White Rose
By Neeti Vashi
You said you wouldn't,
I watched you leave.
But I found you again,
In my dresser drawer,
Words on paper that used to mean so much.
I'm woken up by you, in the middle of the night,
By the scent of you, still on
The pillow with which you once slept.
And in the morning, as I put on my perfume
I hear the satisfaction in your tone
As you breathe me in every time.
Yes, then you're around my neck,
Dangling around my wrist,
and hanging from my ears.
You appear in the lyrics of every song,
In the words of complete strangers.
That white rose you gave me years ago
Still on my shelf, still screams your name
Every time I walk by.
It seems that I just can't escape you.
