Over the Sea

“I love you,” he said.
“I can’t,” she said.
“It can be easy,” he tried.
“It was never easy,” she tried.
“Here,” he breathed as he took her hand. Her lips pursed, parted for the edge of unspoken words. “It’s okay. Trust me.”
She swallowed as she looked at the sky, forced herself to believe.
One jump and they would be free.
One jump and the sea would wrap them up and carry them away together.
Forever.
