Phoenix
By Julie Colombo

Hair like scarlet tinged flames, unkempt,

untamed, swayed in rhythm to

his fiery gait, licking breezes

tickling ears and nape.

Feathered arms fluttered her sheets. Two

dissonant heartbeats danced

in symphony, teasing immortality.

To meld into one flame

To burn in Heliopolis heat

Hesitation, then one last kiss –

all that was left behind, myth

melancholy, moon ash and egg.
