Winter Call
By Glenda Grande
In the midst of my confusion, I call your name.
What is becoming of me? These things I feel
I’ve been pushing it away for so long. Silently.
I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes again
Because once was enough. Two hearts in ruin -
I cannot add you into this chaotic equation.
I’m not running, but doing what I think is best.
Even if I knew this could work, right now it won’t.
Prevention is the best cure they say. So they say.
I assure you I mean well, but I can’t allow this love;
Let it hide beneath the snowflakes of winter, in wait.
Now is not the time to for this rosebud to bloom.
Treading on thin ice; the winter has only just begun.
“Be patient. Be patient.” I repeat those words to myself.
One day my prayers will be answered, without a doubt.
But for now, there are things that still need to be done.
In the haze of the winter mist, I’ll call your name.
For the thought of you keeps my heart warm inside.
