Emancipation
By Glenda Grande

This empty feeling consumes me from within,
Slowly drowning my heart in sweet sorrow.
The melancholic melody plays in the night
Every note so beautiful yet it tears me apart.
The tears I wish to cry remain within me,
Unable to escape my dungeon of a cage.

Who will be the one to save me from myself?
These dreams I envision are nothing but dreams;
What I wish for are only wishes made on the stars.
The love that I desire, will it be a desire unfulfilled?
My greatest dream, wish and desire: everlasting love.
Will there really be a prince who will love me as I am?

My fears and insecurities, both have me trapped,
Bounded against the stone cold walls of loneliness.
These healed scars reflect my memories of pain;
A love which I sought that was never meant to be.
Faith shattered; a heart frozen into icy waters.
Love like a burning candle is all I seek to warm me.

This empty feeling, I wish to banish it for eternity,
Yet this is a feat which I cannot accomplish alone.
Will you be the one who unlocks this guarded soul?
I'll close my eyes and hum to the midnight lullaby,
Waiting to see if you hear me calling, whispering
If my words can reach across the borders, to you.
