Fever
By John Ogden

You are a fever that burns through my brain
Maddening, powerful, an arc of reality
That leaves me gibbering, throws me into seizures
Of activity, action, reaching out to grasp a better me.

Like a fever, the love burning through my body rises
Pushes me, burns, burns, leaves me sundered, a cinder.
Breaks finally, breaks to cool gray sky, the softness
Of cucumber on eyelids, a cool, gentle washcloth
Washing away the doubts, the pain, the need to be
More.

John Ogden was conceived of a government form and a passing mailbox. He lives somewhere out in the woods of a rural land more akin to the fantasy realms of literature than real life, and his favorite dirt bikes will always be the broken ones.
